5 Healthy Snacks that Boost Immunity

A healthy immune system in our body can prevent us from getting sick and infected by diseases, so it is high time for you to boost your immunity amid the coronavirus outbreak and protect your health. There are different kinds of food that can enhance your immune function, but what are some of the handy snacks that you can just grab and eat in the office? How can these snacks improve your immune system? Here are 5 healthy snacks that you can easily buy in a grocery store!

1. Citrus Fruits - Vitamin C

There are many fruits that are rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Antioxidants help our body to regenerate Vitamin E which is also conducive to the functioning of our immune system. Meanwhile, Vitamin C enhances the function of white blood cells, which help us to kill bacteria in our body. Some of the most healthful fruits you should eat more often would be oranges, kiwis, strawberries, blueberries. You can just simply bring a fruit bowl or get a cold-pressed juice for tea!

2. Yogurt - Gut Health 

Yogurt is a probiotic food that contains live bacteria or culture. Probiotic bacteria can remain viable in dried form and reach the intestine alive when consumed. It can then help to improve the balance of your intestinal bacteria and enhance immunity in the gut. To make a healthier choice, you can opt for plain and unsweetened yogurt without added sugar or fat in supermarkets. If you want to further make it more nutritious, add toppings such as berries, coconut flakes, or matcha powder to spice it up! 


3. Nuts - Vitamin E

Nuts, such as almonds, cashews, pistachios and walnuts have abundant Vitamin E that benefits our body immune system. Besides, nuts contain omega 3 fatty-acids which have anti-inflammatory properties and increase the activities of our immune cells. Apart from just eating mixed nuts, you can try prep some raw energy bars with your choice of nuts, medjool dates and coconut oil which can be kept in the freezer for enjoyment throughout the day.


4. Seeds - Minerals

Seeds are tiny, but in fact very powerful! Seeds contain minerals like Zinc, Copper and Selenium which are crucial components and cofactors of antioxidant enzymes, which help to regulate our immune system. Sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and sunflower seeds are just a few examples. Try sprinkle the seeds on your food like salt and pepper! 


5. Avocado - Superfood

Avocado is one of the most trending superfoods nowadays. It is rich in Vitamin A, B, E, and minerals like Copper. All of these nutrients boost our immune functions significantly. There are a variety of methods to make a snack with avocado, such as avocado on toast or cracker and salad. You may find that avocados turn black after cutting, it’s because oxidation takes place. But no worries! Simply squish some lemon juice on top of the avocado, and it will remain green and fresh.
